The beautiful island of Barbados has over 70 sq miles of beaches to choose from - either the sugary white variety, or a more exotic pink. Averaging 9 hours of sunshine per day with daytime highs of 75 - 80 F and fresh breezes keeping humidity low, Barbados is pretty perfect in every sense of the word. The West Coast of Barbados contains the most popular beaches, with numerous hotels, watersports restaurants and bars. The seas here are warm and usually calm. Mullins Beach and Holetown Beach are easily accessible. On the East Coast the waters are exposed to the Atlantic and the beaches are known by surfers for their very large waves - the International Soup Bowl competition is held here annually. For this reason swimming is not recommended but surf dudes should head for Bath Beach and Cattlewash. The waves are also big on the island's South-East coast, Crane Beach being a good choice for body boarders. The reef protected waters of the South Coast are great for safe swimming and snorkeling, Sandy Beach being ideal for small children.
