Dubrovnik is a walled medieval city that looks like it has been taken straight out of a fairy tale. Inside those walls is a maze of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants that spill out delightfully onto the streets. The city has undergone a major restoration since the Serbia-croatian war and only a few bullet holes remain as a reminder of those dark days.

Today Dubrovnik is the proudest feather in Croatia's tourist cap, an elite destination and one of the most beautiful towns in the Mediterranean, definitely a place to visit. Dubrovnik used to be an independent republic, surviving mostly on trade. It managed to survive many centuries, with constant threats to its territory, particularly from the mighty Ottoman Empire and Venice. Today it attracts tourists and visitors alike with its unique charms and delightful scenery. Its very hard to believe now that two of every three buildings were damaged in the Serbian bombardment of 1991, this is testemant to superb restoration work that has restored the Old Town to its former pristine glory. You can take a regular boat from the harbour to the nearby island of Lokrum where legend has it that Richard the Lionheart was washed ashore in 1192 after a great storm. Go to Dubrovnik to hang out with the smart set for half the price it would cost you in Monaco.
