The French Riviera, known to the French as the Cote d'Azur, is one of Europe's top destinations and is a haven for the rich and famous. Jet set towns including Nice, Cannes, Monte Carlo and St Tropez make the Riviera a place of glamour. While the French Riviera might not have the beaches of the Caribbean, there are few places that can match its glitz and glitter. July and August are hot and crowded, the best months for visiting being May/June and early September. The coastline is dramatic with awe inspiring cliffs broken by sweeping beaches. The best kept beaches are found at St Tropez, with soft sand stretching for over three miles. Other noteworthy beaches are Le Meridien Garden Beach just outside Canne, Plage du Martinez at Cannes where you can tan with the glitterati, and the Blue Beach in Nice, which is recommended for families with young children. The Cote d'Azur also offers a number of popular nudist beaches, including Belezy, Domaine d'Enriou and Les Lauzons - but don't forget some high SPF lotion.
