Think of Honolulu and you'll think of Waikiki and the surf scene. Of course you'd be right, but there are plenty of other stunning, less populated beaches to explore. There are also beaches that are perfect for children and unsure swimmers.
All the islands of Hawaii are tropical but comfortable due to the north-easterly trade winds which reduce humidity. The best months to visit are April, May, September and October, when the weather is dry and not so hot. These are also quieter months, so good travel bargains may be available.
No-one can visit Honolulu without stepping onto the world famous Waikiki beach, but others which should be considered are the Kapiolani Beach, situated beside a lovely park, Kuhio Beach, which offers safer swimming, and San Souci for those wishing to avoid the crowds.
