Broadway offers great theatre in all its forms, from classic productions to the latest shows.
The world's most famous theatre district, Broadway is a must-have experience for theatre-lovers, and is on a par with London's West End for representing the pinnacle of the English-speaking world's commercial theatre. There are 40 professional playhouses that seat 500 or more patrons in New York's Theatre District, and one in Manhattan's Lincoln Centre. Visitors can choose to see a classical performance, such as Chicago, playing at the Ambassador, or the latest stage adaptation of Mary Poppins, showing at the New Amsterdam Theatre.
While there are exceptions, in general, open-ended shows are performed in the evening from Tuesday to Saturday, starting at 7:00 or 8:00pm, and matinee performances usually take place at 2:00pm on Wednesday and Saturday and 3:00pm on Sunday. Ticket prices range from $65.00 to $300.00, depending on where in the theatre you choose to sit. The best time to start queuing to get half-price Broadway tickets is 1:00pm on weekdays, at the tickets booth in Times Square.
