Grand Central isn't just a train station; it's a NYC destination in its own right.
Since it opened in 1913, renovations have made Grand Central Terminal far more than a mere transport hub. Nowadays, there's shopping, dining and much more for visitors to enjoy, plus group tours and free personal tours every Wednesday and Friday. Situated in mid-town Manhattan, Grand Central is a gorgeous Beaux-arts structure that has been completely restored to its original glory.
There are floors of restaurants and shops beneath the tracks, with everything from florists and fashion retailers to souvenir vendors, as well as visiting exhibitions and events at Vanderbilt Hall more often than not. Visitors to the main concourse are treated to an unusual view of the night sky if they look up at the cathedral ceiling's illustrated blue-green expanse, which depicts the constellations, and is periodically the site of a zodiac laser show. Admission to Grand Central is free, and the Terminal is open from 5:30am to 1:30am daily, while the shops open at 8:00am and close at 9:00pm.
