We simply couldn't leave Paris off of our list. The worlds most visited capital certainly deserves its spot in our top 10. Whether you go for the romance, the history, the culture or the nightlife Paris has it all to offer. There are more sites here than you could possibly fit into a month let alone a shorter break, so good planning is recommended. Beyond the obvious tourist spots of the Eiffel tower, Champs Elysees, Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre there is a Paris that can be surprisingly friendly to those on a budget, and its well worth straying from the obvious main attractions. The relatively new Musee du Quai Branly houses one of the worlds best primitive art collections and is worth a visit. Bastilles day with its fireworks and festivities on the 14th July is preceded by the popular firemans ball parades on the 13th. At Christmas, Paris comes alive for the holidays with beautifully painted merry-go-rounds placed all over the city which are free to ride for young and old alike.
