The birthplace of Mozart and situated in the most picturesque of settings, Salzburg has been made famous by the film 'The Sound of Music'. Set between two mountain peaks and alongside the winding Salzach river Vienna is pretty much postcard perfect. With its close proximity to the Ski slopes and its charming streets and squares, you wont regret a trip to Salzburg. Mozart's family house is now a museum that houses many of his first instruments. Salzburgs magnificent beer gardens the Stieglkeller and the Augustiner Brau are worth making the journey for on their own, and certainly deserve not to be missed. Also of note is the excellent Michelin starred restaurant surrounded by aeroplanes in the Hangar 7, sponsored by Salzburg's other great export Red bull. Salzburg is fabulous in any season but has a particularly fine Christmas market great for those more unusual of festive presents.
